President El-Sisi sworn in for third term, pledges to boost private sector and drive economic growth in Egypt

CAIRO - 2 April 2024: President El-Sisi was sworn in for his third term today, where he took the oath of office in front of the House of Representatives at the New Administrative Capital. The president’s previous term ends today, with his third term to officially begin tomorrow, April 3, 2024.
 
During his inauguration speech, President El-Sisi pointed out the state's keenness to achieve strong, sustainable, and balanced economic growth, strengthen the role of the private sector, focus on the sectors of agriculture, industry, communications, information technology and tourism, and increase their contributions to the domestic product.
 
Additionally, the President highlighted Egypt's ambition to become a regional hub for transport and transit trade, new and renewable energy, including hydrogen and its derivatives. He also emphasized the intention to maximize the economic role of the Suez Canal.
 
He also reviewed the features and goals of national action during the coming period, which included adopting strategies that maximize Egypt’s economic capabilities and resources, and enhance the resilience and flexibility of the economy in the face of crises.
 
El-Sisi stressed the keenness to increase the agricultural area and productivity to achieve food security for Egypt, and to attract more foreign and local investments to provide millions of sustainable job opportunities and enhance the role of the private sector as an essential partner in leading development
 
President El-Sisi also mentioned that his priorities include adopting strategies that maximize Egypt’s economic capabilities and resources and enhance the solidity and flexibility of the Egyptian economy in the face of crises while achieving strong, sustainable, and balanced economic growth.
 
This includes gradually increasing its contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP), as well as increasing the area of agricultural and productive areas to contribute to achieving food security for Egypt and attracting more local and foreign investments to provide millions of sustainable job opportunities while giving priority to local manufacturing programs to increase exports and Egypt’s revenues from foreign exchange.
 
In his speech, President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of comprehensive institutional reform, aimed at ensuring financial discipline and achieving sound governance. He outlined specific measures such as rationalizing public spending, enhancing public revenues, and pursuing sustainable paths for public debt.
