CAIRO - 21 March 2024: French Saint-Gobain Company started the foundation of its third glass factory in Egypt's Al-Ain Al-Sokhna Industrial Zone in Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), with investment of approximately €175 million, according to a statement released by SCZONE.
The factory sets its sights on exporting 60 percent of its production, aligning with Egypt's ambitious target of achieving $100 billion in exports, as highlighted by SCZONE Chairman, Walid Gamal El-Din.
The newly established factory covers a vast area of 200,000 square meters. Additionally, a solar power plant is being constructed with the capacity to generate 10 megawatts of electricity.
The primary purpose of the power plant, as indicated by SCZONE, is to reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 6,000 tons.
El-Din further underscores the importance of glass production as a complementary industry, in line with Egypt's strategy to localize the automotive sector in the East Port Said region.
He also emphasizes the collaborative efforts between Egypt and France in various sectors, including green fuel production and logistics.
It is worth mentioning that Saint-Gobain already operates a glass production factory spanning 190,000 square meters and a mirror production factory covering 10,000 square meters within the Sokhna zone.
