CAIRO – 4 March 2024: The clothing sector in Egypt experienced an uptick in exports, soaring by 35 percent in January 2024, to reach $259 million in January 2024, compared to $192 million in January 2023, according to a statement by Marie Bishara, President of the Readymade Garment Export Council.
Notably, the United States emerged as the largest market for Egyptian clothing imports, with a value of $106 million in January 2024, compared to $90 million in January 2023, a growth rate of 18 percent.
Additionally, the sector’s exports to European countries showed an increase of 42 percent in January 2024, to record $54 million, compared to $38 million in January 2023.
Turkey witnessed a surge in imports of Egyptian clothing products, with a 62 percent increase from $15 million in January 2023 to $24 million in January 2024.
Similarly, Spain experienced a 35 percent boost in imports, reaching $12 million compared to $9 million the previous year. Germany recorded an increase of 13 percent, with clothing exports amounting to $10 million in January 2024.
The clothing sector's exports to Arab countries also witnessed a growth, surging by 54 percent to reach $57 million in January 2024, compared to $37 million in January 2023.
Among Arab nations, the UAE emerged as the leading importer from Egypt, with imports valued at $23 million, representing a 6 percent increase from the previous year.
Followed by exports to Libya also rose to record $12 million, compared to $4 million, an increase of 243 percent.
