Egypt’s food industry exports record $4.3B in 2023

CAIRO - 14 December 2023: Egypt’s food industry exports recorded a 15 percent during the first 10 months of 2023 to record $4.3 billion an increase from $3.8 billion in 2022, according to statements made by the Chairman of the Food Export Council (FEC) Hani Berzi during the Food Africa Expo.

Arab countries came first as importers of Egyptian food products, amounting to 55 percent of the total market amounting to $2.344 billion in trade volume, reflecting a 21 percent increase compared to 2022’s previous data.

The European Union (EU) countries came as the second-largest destination for Egyptian food exports. The EU's share stands at 17 percent, equivalent to $740 million in trade volume. This represents a 12 percent growth when compared to 2022.

Earlier in December, Egypt’s agricultural trade witnessed significant growth during the 2022/2023 season, with the Agriculture Export Council reporting an increase of 24.6 percent in agricultural exports to hit $3.566 billion from the previous season’s $2.860 billion.

Exports of crops surged by 29.2 percent to reach 5.669 million tons, according to the council’s latest monthly report, a substantial increase from the 4.385 million tons recorded in the previous season.

Imports from Arab countries represented 42 percent of Egypt’s agricultural export volume at 2.355 million tons, valued at $1.314 billion which amounted to 37 percent of the sector’s export value.
