CAIRO - 10 December 2023: In 2022, Egypt recorded a total export value of $52.1 billion, marking an increase of 19.4 percent compared to $43.6 billion in 2021, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The distribution of exports is as follows: non-oil exports accounted for $35.5 billion in 2022, experiencing a 9.0 percent increase from $32.6 billion in 2021. Petroleum exports reached $16.6 billion in 2022, exhibiting a growth of 50.1 percent from $11.0 billion in 2021.
Among Egypt's exports in 2022, finished goods held the highest share at 41.2 percent of the total export value, followed by fuel at 33.5 percent, and semi-manufactured goods at 17.3 percent.
Notable commodities that experienced an increase in export value in 2022 include natural and liquefied gas, which reached $9.9 billion, a remarkable surge of 152.7 percent from $3.9 billion in 2021.
Additionally, the export value of ready-made clothing reached $2.5 billion in 2022, a growth of 21.7 percent from $2.0 billion in 2021. The value of plastics and their manufactures also saw a rise, reaching $2.2 billion in 2022, a 32.6 percent increase from $1.6 billion in 2021.
In terms of export destinations, Turkiye topped the list with a value of $4.0 billion in 2022. Spain followed closely with exports reaching $3.9 billion, and Italy with exports valued at $3.4 billion.
Egypt's imports also experienced growth in 2022, reaching $96.2 billion, a 7.8 percent increase compared to $89.2 billion in 2021.
Non-oil imports accounted for $82.7 billion in 2022, indicating a 4.4 percent increase from $79.2 billion in 2021. Petroleum imports reached $13.5 billion in 2022, demonstrating a growth of 35.0 percent from $10.0 billion in 2021.
