CAIRO – 28 November 2023: In a recent report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), it has been revealed that the index for manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, witnessed a significant decrease of 3.86% in September 2023 as compared to the previous month of August 2023.

According to the data, the manufacturing and extractive industries registered a value of 100.86 in September 2023, showing a slight decline from the figure of 104.91 recorded in August 2023. This decline can be attributed to various factors impacting the industries' performance.

One of the sectors affected by this downward trend is the electrical appliances industry. The industry's index reached 112.51 in September 2023, compared to the previous month's figure of 128.09, indicating a substantial decrease of 12.16%. The primary cause behind this decline is the scarcity of raw materials necessary for production.

Similarly, the transportation equipment industry experienced a significant drop of 25.63% in its index, recording a value of 87.68 in September 2023.

The production of pharmaceuticals witnessed a monthly increase of 3.07% in September 2023 and the output of paper products also experienced a growth of 2.32% during the same period.

The index for industrial production serves as a crucial economic indicator, measuring the real output in the manufacturing, mining, electric, and gas industries relative to the base year of 2012/2013.
