Egyptian building materials exports jumped by 20% in 2023

CAIRO – 22 November 2023: Egypt witnessed a significant boost in its exports of building materials, refractories, and metal industries during the period from January to September 2023. The total export value reached $6.2 billion, marking a 20 percent increase compared to $5.2 billion in the same period in 2022, according to date released by Export Council for Building Materials, Refractory & Metallurgy Industries (ECBM).

Within the metal industries sector, there was a growth of 20 percent, with the export value reaching $3.777 billion, surpassing the $3.135 billion recorded in 2022. Similarly, the building materials sector experienced a 14 percent increase, reaching $1.803 billion compared to $1.585 billion in 2022.

Among the top importing countries for Egyptian building materials, Italy secured the leading position. Its imports amounted to $620 million in 2023, reflecting a growth of 27 percent compared to $487 million in 2022.

The United Arab Emirates ranked second on the list, with a value of $583 million in 2023, experiencing a slight decline of 4 percent from the $591 million recorded in 2022.

Exports to Switzerland, surged by 40.7 percent in 2023, to reach $204 million, compared to $0.500 in 2022.

Turkey’s imports of Egyptian building materials, reached $450 million in 2023 compared to $167 million in 2022, representing an increase of 17.4 percent. Similarly, Romania's imports surged to $177 million in 2023, marking a growth of 15.2 percent from $70 million in 2022.
