CAIRO – 24 October 2023: The Egyptian Authority for Unified Purchasing (UPA) to provide $24 million worth of pharmaceutical supplies to Zambia. The decision comes as part of Egypt's commitment to increasing its medical exports to African markets, as stated by UPA's CEO, Bahaa El-Din Zidan.

According to a statement released by the Egyptian Cabinet on Tuesday, the first batch of supplies has already been shipped, and efforts are underway to coordinate with manufacturers for the preparation and dispatch of the second shipment.

CEO Bahaa El-Din Zidan highlighted UPA's dedication to expanding its services within Egypt as well. Zidan revealed plans to establish six strategic drug stores across Egypt, with the aim of ensuring a steady supply of medical products nationwide.

The Medical and Pharmaceutical Exports Council reported a notable 14% increase in exports during the first half of 2023, amounting to approximately $530 million. This figure represents a considerable rise from the $467 million recorded during the same period last year.

The council has set an ambitious target of achieving a 30% annual increase in export and reach $100 billion in the near future.
