Tourism Minister presents Egypt's plans to attract 30M tourists by 2028

CAIRO – 23 October 2023: Egypt has set a target to enhance tourism and attract 30 million tourists annually by 2028. This came in light of the meeting which was held by the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa, to present Egypt's efforts to achieve this goal.

Within the scope of achieving this target, the government plans to implement various promotional and marketing campaigns with tour organizers and relevant stakeholders, aiming to position Egypt as a desirable tourist destination in diverse tourist markets, minister of tourism stated.

Issa emphasized the effective collaboration between the Ministry and international airline companies, addressing their concerns and working towards increasing the number of airline seats available for visitors to Egypt each year.

In anticipation of the projected growth in tourist arrivals, the minister stated that Egypt is actively working on expanding its hotel infrastructure. By the end of 2024, Egypt is expected to witness a significant increase in the number of hotel rooms, aligning with the expected surge in tourists during the upcoming period.

A recent report from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) revealed positive developments in the tourism sector. In the fiscal year 2022/2023, Egypt's tourism revenues witnessed a remarkable growth of 26.8 percent, reaching $13.6 billion compared to $10.7 billion in the previous fiscal year (2021/2022).

The report also highlighted a 35.6 percent increase in the number of inbound tourists, totaling approximately 13.9 million tourists. Furthermore, the number of nights spent by tourists in Egypt rose by 27.6 percent to a record of 146.1 million nights during the fiscal year 2022/2023.
