30 eggs to cost only 125 EGP Saturday after custom suspension

CAIRO - 10 October 2023: The price of a carton of 30 eggs will be reduced by 25 EGP starting Saturday as per an initiative suspending customs on certain commodities to reflect on staple products. 

The General Union of Poultry Producers announced that on Saturday, the carton will be sold at 125 EGP instead of the current 150 EGP. This would represent great news to families who have been complaining that egg prices have been steadily hiking for months and that eggs and chicken are becoming food that cannot be available daily in their homes, much like the traditionally expensive beef.

At the farm, the carton of eggs will cost 115 EGP.

The initiative will continue for six months and applies on basic commodities with a price reduction of 15-25 percent. The commodities include sugar, oil, lentils, beans, dairy, pasta, and rice.
