CAIRO – 7 October 2023: Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has announced a series of ambitious projects aimed at fostering the growth of the electronics design and manufacturing sector, with a total investment of LE643 million. These projects represent a significant step toward advancing Egypt's technological capabilities and expanding its domestic electronics industry.
Among the key initiatives, the Ministry plans to establish a unit for manufacturing electromechanical systems and create internationally accredited local testing and quality labs. Additionally, it intends to establish a hub for electronics manufacturing and support startups in this field within the Knowledge City. These endeavors are part of the Ministry's broader efforts to boost the information technology sector.
Over the past few years, the Ministry has undertaken several projects, with five already completed at a cost of LE322 million. These include the construction of a mobile device manufacturing plant and the establishment of three electronics innovation hubs.
In total, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has executed and continues to implement projects worth LE56.1 billion over the past nine years.
These projects span the information infrastructure and digital transformation sectors, with LE14.9 billion allocated to 73 projects. Among them, the most noteworthy include the Law Enforcement and Enforcement System (Phase 1 and 2), the development of the commodity and bread support system, the implementation and operation of the health insurance system, the automation of agricultural holdings (Farmers' Card), the launch of the Digital Egypt platform for government services, digitization of documentation services, the Law Enforcement System (Phase 3 and 4), and the enhancement of the Digital Egypt system.
Furthermore, Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has invested in 33 projects in the realm of social responsibility, with a total cost of LE6.6 billion. These projects encompass 27 completed initiatives, including telemedicine (Phase 1), integrated community centers in governorates, the Technical Center for Persons with Disabilities, and the National Academy for the Training and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities. Additionally, there are six ongoing projects, such as telemedicine (Phase 2), the rehabilitation of orphanages and the training of care institutions, and the National Academy for the Training and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, along with the Young Digital Egypt initiative.
These initiatives collectively reflect Egypt's commitment to advancing its technological infrastructure and fostering a vibrant electronics industry, promoting both economic growth and social development.
