Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has recently revealed details of the medium-term plan spanning FY2022/2023 to FY2025/2026, part of a number of disclosures on the ministry's broader initiative to distribute data regarding the economic and social development plan for the fiscal year 2023/2024 and the second year of the medium-term plan.
Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Hala El-Said, emphasized on key initiatives outlined in the plan, stressing their positive impact on citizens' quality of life. These initiatives include the Decent Life Initiative (Haya Karima) for rural development, efforts to control population growth and enhance family dynamics, and a comprehensive health insurance program covering multiple governorates. Additionally, support for small and micro-enterprises remains a crucial point of the plan.
El-Said noted the impact of global uncertainty due to international economic and geopolitical happenings on economies across the world, including Egypt. The minister emphasized the need for economic policies characterized by adaptability and flexibility to navigate this uncertain landscape effectively.
She also underscored the importance of adopting a more conservative approach when setting development targets, noting that such an approach ensures that the Egyptian economy remains resilient and capable of withstanding and recovering from future developments.
The ministry's report outlines foundational principles guiding development directions, priorities, and policies in line with Egypt's Vision 2030 and its overarching goals and development strategy.
These principles include a commitment to enhancing citizenship and fostering social cohesion by providing equal opportunities to all segments of society and regions, aiming to bridge income disparities and improve living conditions for all Egyptians.
El-Said added that the plan emphasizes the importance of leveraging national wealth resources based on comparative and competitive advantages. This strategic focus enhances Egypt's economic competitiveness on the global stage, boosting economic growth and increasing employment opportunities.
The report highlights several initiatives implemented in the past four years, aimed at strengthening social safety nets and improving healthcare, particularly for women and children.
