CAIRO - 8 July 2023: The Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Mr. Mohamed Al-Quseir, has confirmed that total agricultural exports during the period from January 1, 2023, to July 5, 2023, reached approximately 4,654,246 tons of agricultural products. This marks an increase of 717,896 tons compared to the previous year, which recorded around 3,936,350 tons during the same period.
Mr. Al-Quseir also noted that for the first time, Egyptian citrus exports have reached one million and 900 thousand tons, according to a report received by the minister from Dr. Ahmed Al-Attar, Chairman of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine Authority, regarding Egyptian agricultural exports during the first half of the year.
The Minister of Agriculture expressed his gratitude to Egyptian farmers and exporters, commending the efforts of the Agricultural Quarantine Authority, Ministry-affiliated laboratories, and the Export Council.
He also praised the cooperation with Egyptian embassies and commercial representation abroad, which contributed to achieving this record number of Egyptian agricultural exports, aimed at supporting the national economy and foreign reserves, as highlighted in the report by the Agricultural Quarantine Authority.
The report emphasized that the most important agricultural exports included citrus fruits, potatoes, fresh onions, sweet potatoes, pomegranates, garlic, strawberries, beans, guava, tomatoes, and grapes.
Total citrus exports reached 1,894,120 tons, in addition to exporting 876,241 tons of fresh potatoes, ranking second in agricultural exports after citrus fruits.
Furthermore, 323,783 tons of onions were exported, securing the third position in exports, while grapes ranked fourth with a total of 94,660 tons. Beans ranked fifth with 73,889 tons, followed by potatoes with 54,090 tons, tomatoes with 44,259 tons, strawberries with 23,295 tons, garlic with 21,470 tons, guava with 9,507 tons, and pomegranates with 3,524 tons.
Egypt's agricultural sector continues to thrive, with a notable increase in agricultural exports during the first half of 2023.
The country's diverse range of high-quality agricultural products, such as citrus fruits, potatoes, and onions, has gained significant traction in international markets.
This surge in exports not only contributes to Egypt's economic growth but also strengthens its position as a reliable supplier of agricultural commodities, fostering foreign exchange reserves and supporting the national economy.
