WFP approves Egypt’s Country Strategic Plan at a value of $431M

CAIRO - 2 July 2023: The World Food Program’s executive board approved Egypt’s Country Strategic Plan for the next five years 2023-2028, at a value of $431 million during its annual session in June.

The WFP Executive Board's annual session in Rome, Italy took place from 26 to 30 June 2023 where Hassan Abdallah, the Governor of the Central Bank, attended the annual session and delivered a speech.

During his speech, he reviewed the efforts made by Egypt within the scope of work of the World Food Program in Egypt. Abdallah noted that the plan will focus on supporting the agricultural sector, enhancing financial inclusion, supporting small farmers, empowering women in rural areas, and providing support to refugees in Egypt.

The CBE governor also stated that the plan will be implemented in cooperation and coordination with the relevant ministries and government agencies.

The strategic plan also aims to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 of ending hunger and SDG 17 of revitalizing global partnerships to strengthen project implementation, as stated in its official document.
