CAIRO - 21 June 2023: The Egyptian Parliament approved a draft law establishing the Egyptian Agency for Intellectual Property Rights (EAIPR) on Tuesday.
A report prepared by The Education and Scientific Research Committee at Parliament entailing that the EAIPR will be exclusively mandated with supervising all forms of intellectual property in Egypt in line with the constitution and international conventions and standards.
“The new legislation will unify all authorities and institutions currently responsible for regulating intellectual property rights in Egypt into one agency in order to be able to protect these rights effectively in line with the most up-to-date international standards,” Sami Hashem, Head of the Education Committee, said.
The report also stated that the EAIPR will be also tasked with advancing technological innovation, human creativity, scientific research and cultural development.
In September 2022, the government launched Egypt’s first National Intellectual Property Strategy (NIPS) that acts as a roadmap for placing an institutional framework for governing intellectual property rights and streamlining policymaking.
