CAIRO - 20 June 2023: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), to release the new polymer LE 20 banknote in the next few days before Eid al-Adha.
The new banknote incorporates the Braille system and adapts latest technologies for the first time supporting the visually impaired. The banknote was printed at the New Central Bank Press in the Administrative Capital.
The front side of the LE 20 banknote will feature the Mohamed Ali Mosque and the back side of the banknote will feature the Cleopatra statue and the Khufu pyramid.
It was printed based on holograms and watermarks that were manufactured at the National Company for Advanced Industrial and Integrated Strategic Printing Solutions (NASPS) that President El Sisi inaugurated in April 2021.
The CBE issued Egypt’s first plastic polymer-made banknote in the denomination of LE 10 in July of last year.
Plastic money is characterized by flexibility, strength, and less thickness, which allows a longer life span of up to about 5 times the life of paper money. Plastic money is also water-resistant, less affected by dust, environmentally friendly, and is difficult to counterfeit.
