CAIRO - 12 May 2023: A delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB) recently visited Egypt's Ministry of Transportation to review ongoing cooperative projects and potential collaboration.
The delegation, led by Gilles Guérin, Vice President of the EIB, discussed potential new initiatives to be implemented in the near future.
Leaders from Egypt's National Authority for Tunnels and National Authority for Railways were also in attendance.
At the start of the meeting, Minister of Transportation Kamel El-Wazir praised the two sides' beneficial cooperation and expressed a wish for future collaboration on joint projects.
Guérin also lauded the current collaboration in the implementation of a number of cooperative projects in Egypt's transport industry.
Under the framework agreement for infrastructure, the EIB has funded several projects, including the rehabilitation of El-Raml Tram in Alexandria, the Abu Qir Metro project in Alexandria, and the rehabilitation of the first and second metro lines, as well as cooperation on several railway projects.
The Egyptian government has shown a desire to improve its infrastructure and transport networks, with a special emphasis on rail projects.
The EIB's continuing investment in Egypt's transport industry will definitely help fuel the country's economy and provide job opportunities. Egypt is well-positioned to meet its infrastructure ambitions and enhance the lives of its people with the help of international partners such as the EIB.
