CAIRO – 21 February 2023: Transport Minister, Kamel El Wazir, revealed on Tuesday that all the ministry’s employees will work from the new headquarter located in the new administrative capital, starting from March 2023.
The Minister explained that some employees have been working from the ministry’s new administrative capital headquarter since October 2022, and now with sufficient transportation means from and to the new administrative capital, the rest of the employees are ready to join their colleagues.
The minister’s statements came during a press conference to discuss transportation means within the new administrative capital, in addition to means provided to transport government employees to their new workplaces, where he revealed the contraction of nine private companies to provide 48 bus lines from all across Egypt.
On another hand, the minister revealed, during the press conference, a LE 2 increase for metro tickets covering more than 25 stations, spiraling to LE 12 instead of LE 10, while other ticket prices will remain the same.
El-Wazir described the decision as a delayed one that should’ve been taken ever since the inauguration of the third metro line, Adly Mansour.
Currently, metro ticket prices are LE 5 for 9 stations, LE 7 for 16 stations and LE 10 for 17+ stations
Additionally, the Minister stated that light rail transit (LRT) / electric train ticket prices are likely to increase in conjunction with the increase of its running capacity.
According to the minister, LRT/ electric trains ticket prices are subsidized, by using financial resources from establishing investment and commercial areas surrounding the train stations, as the current ticket prices don’t cover the operational costs of the trains.
The current ticket prices of the LRT range from LE 10 for - 3 stations - to LE 20 - for 7 stations -, with an almost 50 percent reduced subscription plan.
