CAIRO – 16 February 2023: Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Amr Talaat said Thursday that the Egyptian government has taken massive strides to a secure smooth digital transformation.
He made the remarks during his participation as a guest of honor in the opening session of the “Government Services Forum: A Dialogue on the Future of Government Services”, as part of the World Government Summit (WGS) 2023 grouping global experts and prominent business leaders from the private sector.
Talaat said Egypt is foremost among Arab countries in terms of fixed internet connection speed, according to a press release by the ICT ministry.
Egypt also ranked A at the GovTech Maturity Index (GTMI); an important tool for helping countries understand their classification on the public sector digital transformation trajectory, thus assisting practitioners in designing new digital transformation projects, the minister said.
Meanwhile, the minister said a number of initiatives and programs that have been carried out to build capabilities in the various technological sectors.
Digital Egypt platform was launched to offer more than 165 governmental services to citizens in the various sectors, added the minister.
He reviewed the Egyptian experiment in providing services to citizens, through upgrading designing strategies, technological approaches and applications.
Also, the minister met with UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications Omar Sultan al-Olama.
Talks pored over means of fostering cooperation in the AI and digital transformation spheres.
The UAE minister voiced keenness on promoting future cooperation with Egypt, especially in the Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications and techniques.
Talaat also met with Kojo Boakye, Vice President of Meta Pubic Policy for Africa, Middle East and Africa as they discussed bilateral cooperation in the AI and metaverse applications.
The meeting delved into the Digital Egypt strategy, Egypt’s efforts to achieve digital transformation and proposed projects of cooperation in this regard.
He also held a meeting with leaders from Google MENA. They reviewed opportunities for expanding Google’s business and establishing a service delivery center in Egypt.
The meeting tackled Egypt’s plans to develop the data center industry, and opportunities of expansion in Google cloud services and data centers in Egypt.
The ICT Minister participated, as a member of an official high-level delegation headed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in WGS 2023 in Dubai, where Egypt is invited as a Guest of Honor.
