CAIRO - 23 January 2023: Arish Sea Port is witnessing the largest development movement of its kind to become one of the international ports on the Mediterranean coast.
Major General Abdel-Fadhil Shousha, Governor of North Sinai, said that the Arish Port development project is one of the most important and largest development projects on the North Sinai coast, which will transform the port to be one of the largest international ports on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
He pointed out that the Arish Port witnessed a recent visit by prime minister as one of the major national projects in the governorate, which after its area did not exceed 50 acres, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed that it be developed to be an international port at the highest level, so 540 acres were added to it, which is equivalent to 11 times the aforementioned area.
He pointed out that what the port is witnessing now includes the development of berths with a length of more than 2.5 km, and the deepening of the draft from 7 meters to 13 meters, to be a sea front for the export of all large products and industries that are being produced in North Sinai, and provides great job opportunities for the people of North Sinai.
The governor of North Sinai said that the Arish sea port represents "an economic advantage added to the development efforts on the land of Sinai after the completion of the ongoing work to develop it," indicating that development operations are underway for the port thanks to the directives of the political leadership and the state’s insistence on reopening it to advance economic development in Egypt.
He further pointed that Egypt's central location makes it the shortest link between the south and north of the Mediterranean, as it is located in the middle between Europe and Asia.
The governor also affirmed that the political leadership paid great attention to the development of the port as well, after it was a very small port.
