CAIRO - 28 December 2022: A report submitted by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek al-Molla to the House of Representatives' Energy and Environment Committee indicated that Egypt's production of natural gas doubled between 2014 and 2022.
The report highlighted that Egypt's imports of gas between April 2015 and September 2018 recorded LE127 billion. However, the country was able to achieve self-sufficiency later in 2018 when production became 6.8 billion cubic feet per day.
Further, the exports of natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNA) recorded $7.8 billion in the first ten months of 2022.
Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) for Agreements and Exploration Samir Raslan stated earlier in December that 24 agreements were signed - over four years - in the Mediterranean and the Nile Delta with investments totaling $2.7 billion and grants worth nearly $25 million.
Raslan noted that Egypt’s production of natural gas was not halted during the coronavirus outbreak despite the worldwide suspension of production as a result of the crisis.
