CAIRO - 8 December 2022: Egypt's exports of frozen strawberry surged by 30 percent during the first 10 months of 2022, registering $290 million, against $240 million for the same period last year, Vice Chairman of the Food Export Council (FEC) Ashraf El-Sayed said Wednesday.
Sayed was addressing a session on agro-manufacturing and its impact on the food industry, held as part of the 7th edition of the International Trade Exhibition for Food & Beverages (Food Africa) slated for December 5-7 at Cairo's International Exhibition Centre.
He noted that the local content in agro-based industries constitutes about 35 percent, underscoring the need for backward integration between manufacturing and agro-industries, given the gap between the growth of the agricultural and industrial sectors.
Sayed urged the government to set up an elaborate clear-cut plan to boost the growth of agro-based industries and achieve industry-agriculture-foreign trade integration, especially as the global setting is changing and the concept that 'China is the world factory,' has become a thing of the past.
Food Africa is the largest trade fair in Africa dedicated to the food and agricultural industries. This year's edition attracted over 21,500 visitors from 32 countries.
The event provides a good opportunity for suppliers from local, regional and international markets to showcase a unique yet diversified selection of food and specialty products.
Visitors to Food Africa 2022 expo also benefit from the opportunity to meet and build partnerships with players in the F&B and agriculture industry within the fastest-expanding market in East Africa.
