Egypt's exports to Nile Basin countries increased 29.5% during 2021

CAIRO - 6 December 2022: Egypt's exports to the Nile Basin countries increased during 2021 by 29.5 percent, on an annual basis, reaching $1.55 billion, compared to $1.19 billion in 2020, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS)
 
The Nile Basin countries include: (Sudan - Ethiopia - Uganda - Congo - Kenya - Tanzania - Rwanda - Burundi - Eritrea - South Sudan).
 
The CAPMAS indicated in a statement, Tuesday, that Egypt's exports to the Nile Basin countries amounted to $1.55 billion in 2021, compared to $1.19 billion in 2020.
 
As for the imports from the Nile Basin countries, they  amounted to $0.66 billion in 2021, compared to $0.56 billion in 2020, with an increase of 17.8 percent.
 
According to the statement, Sudan ranked first in exports, with a value of $826.8 million in 2021, compared to $500.1 million in 2020, an increase of 65.3 percent. The most important items that were exported to Sudan were plastics and their products (raw materials for the plastic industry), sugar and sugar products.
 
Kenya came in second place, with a value of $382.0 million in 2021, compared to $387.2 million in 2020, marking a decrease of 1.3 percent. The most important items that were exported to Kenya were plastics and articles thereof (raw materials for the plastic industry), iron and articles thereof, paper and articles of paper pulp, salt and sulfur, stone dust and cement.
 
On the other hand, Sudan also ranked first in imports, with a value of $336.7 million in 2021, compared to $224.9 million in 2020, marking an increase of 49.7 percent. The most important items that were imported were live animals, grains, oily fruits, medicinal plants, and fodder.
 
In second place was Kenya, with a value of $248.9 million in 2021, compared to $238.4 million in 2020, with an increase of 4.4 percent. The most important items that were imported were coffee, tea and other spices.
 
The group of chemical products and plastics ranked first for exports, with a value of $475.4 million in 2021, compared to $391.4 million in 2020, with an increase of 21.5 percent.
 
While the group of animal and plant products, beverages, and tobacco came in first place for imports, with a value of $553.6 million in 2021, compared to $438.3 million in 2020, marking an increase of 26.3 percent.
