Sustainability is the magic word dominating the atmosphere these days. Everyone talks about the ability of their projects to achieve sustainability and its impact on the environment, but there may be something more important than that. This is exactly what Mountain View offers in COP27.

In 2015, Mountain View Signed their collaboration with the New Urban Communities Authority for their signature project ICity, the first application of a sustainable city in Egypt using The Science of Happiness, in Sharm El Sheikh. Now, six years later, Mountain View has returned to the same place where everything started for COP27 with the goal of tackling sustainability and placing people's well-being first.

Fueled by innovation and deeply rooted authenticity, Mountain View aspires happy, meaningful, and sustainable living through integrated world-class communities. Adding to this boundless passion and ceaseless contributions, they hosted a panel in COP27 Blue Zone area entitled “Enhancing Wellbeing - Designing for People and Planet”,  focusing on sustainable development and connecting with people on a deeper level to create designs that reflect happiness and nature (ICity)! Mountain View’s true nature is about happiness, and they have made it their goal since they ever started their operations, all whilst tackling a few sustainable development goals (SDGs) on the way!

The discussion hosted a group of prominent figures in different industries and fields to share an overall cohesive and comprehensive outlook throughout the panel.  The session was moderated by Arc. Ahmed El-Erian, CTE, Salus Global, and included Eng. Amr Soliman, Founder and Chairman of Mountain View, Dr. Sahar Attia member in the stakeholders advisory group enterprise (SAGE) UN Habitat, Dr. Hend Farouh, HBRC Housing, and Building Research Center, and Ms. Victoria Burrows, Director, Advancing Net Zero, World Green Building Council.

People and Planet
During the panel, Eng. Amr Soliman shared the company’s unique, innovative and visionary goals that shed light on how placing PEOPLE at the Centre of care, enables the well-being of communities and empowers the sustainability of the environment. This puts Mountain View in a league of its own due to the way it tackles social sustainability. He also discussed the different ways developers are creating sustainable cities, tackling social, economic, and environmental challenges, and possible applications to create healthy environments for people and the planet.

Additionally, he tapped into the company’s ultimate belief that revolves around the idea that “better life is not only our duty towards ourselves but our responsibility towards our children”. Driven by this belief, Mountain View create environments that are greener than average, more walkable than others, and extremely luxurious, to make each day enjoyable and encourage residents to develop positive habits and introduce a greener lifestyle practices to their inner circle that aims at safeguarding the planet.

“In Mountain View, our goal is not increasing land capacity but growing happier communities,” says Eng. Amr Soliman. Our vision is based on “Bringing Life to Land", by establishing integrated urban communities. Providing a happy life for Mountain View’s community motivates them to live a more sustainable life, be wary of climate change issues, and participate in initiatives that preserve the environment.” He added, “In Mountain View, we are focused on instilling cultural and social values in younger generations to encourage them to interact with Community issues and contribute to the development of solutions to them.”

“Egypt faces an exponential demand for new homes as per its economic and population expansions,” Added Eng. Amr Soliman. “One of Mountain View’s most important goals is to tackle this issue while leading the deep connection of developing PEOPLE and designing residences that are fit for PLANET, while sustaining business growth”. This comes in line with the company’s strategy of offering a distinctive residential real estate product and provides innovative, top-notch and convenient solutions based on the Science of Happiness.

But what is the science of Happiness?
“Mountain View always renews its promise to continuously utilize innovative solutions to fulfill evolving needs and resolve big challenges,” says Eng. Amr Soliman. “This eventually drives happiness which we measure through the Happiness Index”. This indicates people’s well-being from various angles including: physical, emotional, mental, cultural, and economic.

The higher the “Happiness Index” in workplaces and businesses, which puts people at the center of care, could mitigate climate change rejections behavior in the mid-term. This aligns with how Mountain View places people at the center of care, enables the well-being of communities, and empowers the sustainability of the environment. All of which leads to an enhanced and continuous willingness to support the entire ecosystem of sound environmental and social practices. This is the swirl effect that reverses climate crisis to climate recovery.

Some of Mountain View’s solutions to achieve happiness includes nurturing  younger generations. In alignment with its core value to develop youths’ skills, the company invested to tailor a Youth Development Program (YDP), which aims to develop and empower the younger generations aged between 8 to 16 years old through a tailored program to educate youth about taking responsibility in generating their own profit, starting their own businesses both practically and theoretically.

Mountain View also launched Cultural Experiences program, which aims to developing the youth community offering a variety of activities and events to reinforce youth’s overall development. This reflects Mountain View’s long-term strategy to bolster the residents’ journey starting from nurturing their skills at a young age to supporting their future careers at a later stage through (AUC Venture Lab) with aim of building an entrepreneurial mindset among the participants.

Committed to providing world-class standards and building happy communities, Mountain View developed the 1st happy HQs in Egypt in collaboration with DH and CallisonRTKL. And because they lead by example, they created an environment that makes their employees healthier, happier, and more productive which reflected positively on the company’s performance. As a result, productivity increased by 21%, sales by 37%, and innovation increased by a whopping 300%. Mountain View takes pride in leading the commercial real estate industry into a new horizon of innovation while spreading a culture of positive workplace through Heartwork, the first happy business complex in the region.

Mountain View is among Egypt’s leading private property developers. 17 years of developing land across 15 projects from residential to commercial and retail inside the city and along the Red Sea and North coastlines. But the brand’s story goes beyond this definition, to reach people through values, culture and true happiness. They aim to be able to deliver those values today, without compromising the rights for tomorrow’s generations.
