CAIRO – 19 October 2022: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Wednesday said the Egyptian government is keen on facilitating British investments in various sectors of the Egyptian economy.
Shoukry made the remarks during a meeting with UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Africa Gillian Keegan, who is on a visit to Egypt to participate in "Cairo Water Week (CWW 2022), which kicked off on Sunday under the theme: "Water at the Heart of Climate Action".
He also asserted the government's commitment to promote British investors' engagement in mega national development projects, and make the best use the promising investment opportunities in Egypt.
Applauding the inaugural meeting of the UK-Egypt Association Council in July, Shoukry emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of this meeting to push bilateral cooperation forward, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
The two sides also discussed a raft of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its repercussions on global food and prices, especially for developing nations.
They also probed the situation in Libya and Sudan, the spokesman added.
Welcoming Britain's interest in fostering cooperation on water issues, Shoukry briefed the British official on the latest organizational and thematic developments related to the upcoming global climate summit (COP27) Egypt will host in the iconic Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh next month.
Scheduled to wrap up today, the CWW 2022 has brought together water actors and stockholders around the world to present and discuss key issues, policies, strategies, plans, and measures related to climate-water challenges.
It was organized by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in collaboration with national, regional, and international partners, under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah El Sisi.
Over 1,000 persons have participated in the event, including, 16 ministerial delegations, 54 official delegations, and 66 relevant international organizations.
