CAIRO - 17 October 2022: Juhayna Food Industries Company signed a contract with KarmSolar Solar Energy Company to establish a hybrid central plant to generate and sell energy using solar panels, diesel generators and industrial batteries at the Enmaa farm in Abu Minqar area in the New Valley.
The new cooperation protocol aims to work on producing electricity from the central station, with a production capacity of 8.3 megawatts for solar energy, 10.8 megawatts for diesel and 27.5 megawatts per hour from the battery storage system.
This will save 65 percent of the energy consumed by Juhayna's Enmaa farm from solar energy, and 35 percent from diesel generators.
“The construction of this plant aims to confront climate changes and find alternative energy sources that do not harm the environment, thus contributing to a more sustainable environment,” CEO of Juhayna, Niels Thomsen said.
Thomsen added that the Egyptian government's interest in climate action and hosting the climate conference will yield significant environmental and economic benefits, and contribute to the transition to a green economy.
For his part, CEO of KarmSolar, Ahmed Zahran, said that the cooperation protocol aims to provide Juhayna's solar energy needs in hard-to-reach areas.
He added that his company will provide a solar energy network in the Abu Minqar area of Farafra, and supply this network with electricity through solar energy by 62 percent, which will save about 1.6 million liters of diesel annually.
The investments of the first phase of the project amount to about LE 120 million, according to Zahran.
Zahran indicated that the company will work within two years to cover the entire farm's energy needs through solar panels.
