CAIRO - 18 August 2022: President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi issued Thursday a republican decree appointing Hassan Abdullah former Vice Chairman & Managing Director of the Arab African International Bank (AAIB), as acting governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).
Recently, Abdullah was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Media Company, succeeding Tamer Morsi.
Furthermore, he is also currently founder and Chairman of advisory and private equity firm Panther Associates.
Hassan Abdullah began his career in the Arab African International Bank in Egypt in 1982, then moved in 1988 to the bank’s branch in New York, where he was appointed in 1994 as Assistant General Manager, then General Manager in 1999, and Vice Chairman and Managing Director in 2000.
He was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union of Arab and French Banks in Hong Kong, and the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “Loyalty to Egypt” Foundation.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Arab and French Banks in Paris, the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Advisory Council for Emerging Markets, the Central Bank of Egypt, the Orascom Construction company, Coca-Cola Egypt bottling company, Endeavor Egypt, and Telecom Egypt.
He also served as a faculty member at the American University in Cairo and a member of the Strategic Advisory Board at the College of Business Administration at the American University in Cairo.
He was a founding member of the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council, a founding member and president of the Small Business Investors Association, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Banking Institute.
He held an MBA from the American University in Cairo in 1992, and a BA in Business Administration in 1982 from the same university.
