CAIRO - 15 August 2022: Egypt’s unemployment rate stabilized at 7.2 percent of the total labor force during the second quarter (Q2) of 2022, on a quarter on quarter (QoQ) basis, according to the state-statistic body.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced in a statement Monday that the estimated size of the labor force recorded 29.985 million individuals, compared to 29.895 million individuals during the previous quarter, with an increase of 0.3 percent.
It attributed the reason for this rise to the increase in the number of workers by 84,000 during the current quarter compared to the previous quarter, and the increase of the unemployed by 6,000 unemployed persons, which led to an increase in the labor force by 90,000 individuals.
The labor force in urban areas reached 13,191 million individuals, recording 10.6 percent, while it reached 16,794 million individuals in the countryside to mark 4.5 percent.
At the gender level, the size of the male labor force reached 24,850 million individuals, while it amounted to 5,134 million individuals for females.
As for the unemployment among males aged between 15 to 29 years, it reached 61.3 percent, according to the CAPMAS.
The number of unemployed people in the second quarter of 2022 registered 2.151 million, including 1,250 million males and 901,000 females, compared to 2.145 million unemployed people in the corresponding period of 2021.
In 2021, the unemployment rate recorded 7.4 percent, down 0.5 percent in comparison with 2020.
