Egypt allocates 306.8 bln total investments to transport sector in 22/23 plan

CAIRO – 4 August 2022: The Egyptian government directed about 306.8 billion pounds in total targeted investments to the transport sector in the year of the 22/23 plan, compared to 240.7 billion pounds in the previous fiscal year.

This was according to the document of the economic and social development plan submitted by the Minister of Planning Dr. Hala Al-Saeed and approved by both houses of the Parliament.

The report of the Parliament’s Planning and Budget Committee sheds light on the most important public investments directed to various projects in the sector during the new year and their distribution.

At the forefront of these projects comes the fast electric train (Ain Sukhna / the new administrative capital / El Alamein city). The total cost of the project is about 159.7 billion pounds. Another project is the electric train ( Adly Mansour / Tenth of Ramadan / New Administrative Capital), with a total cost of about 50.8 billion pounds.

The plan, as stated in the report of the Parliament’s Planning and Budget Committee, includes that the construction of two of the new Nile axes (Abu Ghaleb - Al-Qatta axis), the construction of eight upper bridges on the Cairo-Alexandria agricultural road, the construction of three bridges on the international coastal road, the rehabilitation of the 350 km Qena / Abu Tartour railway, linking the Cairo / Aswan railways with the Sudan railways.

As for the projects being completed, they include the duplication of the Assiut-Sohag/Red Sea road, the duplication of the 6th of October/Al-Wahat road, the expansion and development of the Gamasa/Mansoura tributary, as well as the completion of three projects, including: the development of the Cairo/Assiut Western Desert Road, the expansion and development of the Suez/Geneva/ Ismailia, and the development of Wadi El-Natrun El Alamein Road.

The total number of projects targeted to be completed in the 2022/23 plan amounted to about 29 projects distributed by 11 projects, targeted to be completed with a length of 216 km.
