Egypt, General Electric sign cooperation protocol to train workers in electricity sector

CAIRO – 15 June 2022: The Ministry of Electricity and General Electric signed Wednesday a cooperation protocol to train workers in the sector. The signing took place in the New Administrative Capital and was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli.

Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met on June 6 in Cairo the representatives of General Electric (GE) to procure medical devices that depend on artificial intelligence (AI).

The minister said that Egypt is particularly interested in devices that screen patients for brain tumors without carrying out any invasive procedures. That is in addition to training programs on brain and prostate cancer screening using such devices.

The latest significant cooperation with General Electric (GE) was the purchase of 110 train engines, which were all delivered in 2021.

The $602.05-million contract also provided the rehabilitation of 81 others of the current fleet at Tebin Workshop in Cairo, and the supply of spare parts and maintenance of 181 engines over 15 years at a cost of $575 million. That is in addition to offering technical support embodied in training 30 engineers and 245 technicians.

The Ministry of Transportation revealed there was more to those engines as they are remote control locomotives that can be operated from towers designed for that purpose. However, the new engines are mainly operated by the drivers so as the control tower serves to intervene in emergencies.
