CAIRO - 28 March 2022: Ras Mohamed Protectorate is the meeting point of the Gulf of Suez, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea as well, Director General of South Sinai Reserves, Walid Hassan, said.

Hassan pointed out that its name Ras “ Head” is a geographical name that means that it has a part of the land prominent in the water.

Hassan added on the sidelines of an inspection tour to the Ras Mohamed Protectorate in South Sinai, that that the reason for giving the name Muhammad to the reserve dates back to the era of the Islamic conquests, when 40 Companions arrived at that reserve and it was called in the past the name of the 40 Companions Reserve. Over time, the name was reduced to Ras Muhammad.

The director of South Sinai Reserves explained that the marine natural components in the formation of the Ras Mohammed Reserve are higher than the terrestrial ones, as the reserve is distinguished by its marine resources, fish and marine creatures, in addition to the fact that the reserve accounts for the two best diving sites in Egypt and occupies the second and third places in the world.

Hassan also pointed out that the Ras Mohamed Protectorate receives all tourism from Sharm El-Sheikh to enjoy its famous diving centers, which are ranked second and third in the world.

The director of South Sinai Reserves stressed that tourists differ in their level of awareness and understanding of the concept of natural reserves, and may adopt behaviors that harm the nature of nature reserves, such as taking part of the coral reefs or natural resources in them, in addition to throwing waste, specifically plastic.
