CAIRO - 20 March 2022: The Egyptian Ministry of Transport signed two memoranda of understanding with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, on Sunday, as part of the ministry's plan to attract all global operators to work inside Egyptian ports in the field of managing and operating multi-purpose terminals in Egyptian sea and river ports.
The ministry elaborated in a statement that the first memorandum of understanding (MoU) included the management and operation of a multi-purpose terminal in Ain Sokhna port, as part of the completion of the development of Sokhna port in accordance with the latest international systems to be one of the most important Egyptian hub ports in the Red Sea to serve the trade movement between South and East Asia, South and West Europe and North Africa .
The first MoU was signed by Abdel Qader Darwish, Chairman of the Egyptian Group for Multi-Purpose Terminals, and Saif Al Mazrouei, Head of the Transport Sector at Abu Dhabi Ports Group.
The second memorandum of understanding was signed between the Public Authority for River Transport and the consortium of Abu Dhabi Ports Group and the Egyptian Group for Multi-Purpose Terminals to manage and operate a river port, activate the transport of goods and individuals, and establish a river port in Minya Governorate.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of preparing for the work of a silo for storing sugar and exporting it through the port of Damietta and preparing the logistic areas there designated for that purpose.
The memorandum of understanding also included the work of studies on passenger transport within the framework of the national project of the River Transport Authority to activate passenger transport between governorates.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Moufid Salah Shehata, Chairman of the Public Authority for River Transport, Abdel Qader Darwish, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Group for Multipurpose Terminals, and Sayed Al Mazrouei, Head of the Ports Sector at Abu Dhabi Ports Group.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Port Training Institute of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and the Alexandria Port Authority regarding cooperation in the field of training programmes.
