CAIRO - 14 March 2022: Ministers of Supply and Internal Trade, Finance and Agriculture issued a decree to start the season of supplying locally produced wheat for 2022 on April 1 instead of April 15.

The decree added that the supply will be for the benefit of the General Authority for Supply Commodities of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, provided that the local wheat supply season will continue this year until the end of August 2022.

Ahmed Kamal, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Supply, said in a statement, Monday, that the decision comes within the state’s strategy to create a safe strategic stockpile of local wheat.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade had prepared well for this season after increasing wheat storage capacities and capacities to 3.6 million tons, and that a large number of field silos would enter the season this year.

Kamal added that the ministry has equipped more than 400 centers and collection points in the governorates, stressing that the directives of the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade to the wheat marketers are to facilitate the supply operations from farmers and receive all the wheat supplied to them, provided that they conform to the terms of supply that were set before.

He also stressed that the ministry has prepared well to receive nearly 6 million tons targeted this year, and that the strategic stockpile of wheat is safe and will reach nearly eight months after local wheat imports.
