CAIRO - 27 February 2022: Foreign investments in Egyptian treasury bills in the local currency declined during December for the third month in a row, marking a decrease of $178 million on a monthly basis, reaching its lowest level since March 2021, according to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).
CBE revealed in its January bulletin that foreign balances in treasury bills recorded $20.423 billion (about LE 321.8 billion) at the end of last December, compared to $20.601 billion (about LE 324.6 billion) at the end of last November.
Thus, foreign investments in treasury bills fell during the last quarter of 2021 by about $3.6 billion, after recording their highest level since the start of the coronavirus pandemic at the end of last September at $24 billion.
Despite that, foreign investments in treasury bills increased during 2021 by about $2.6 billion, compared to $17.815 billion at the end of December 2020.
