Cairo - 23 Febuary 2022: Careem Egypt, the leading internet platform in technology and smart transport services, announced its investment strategy and vision in the Egyptian market for 2022.
Mr. Haitham Essam - Careem Egypt General Manager showcased the achievements of Careem Egypt in 2021 where the company had invested over $4 million in the local market to expand its network, creating more opportunities for locals to help them improve their incomes. The company is also planning to increase its investment in the Egyptian market in 2022 to reach $11 million.
“We plan to continue to offer our customers competitive prices, making the service accessible to a broader portion of the society. We will also help our captains increase their income, and continue to improve the quality and safety of the services offered to our customers”, said Haitham Essam - Careem Egypt General Manager.
Since the inception of Careem Egypt in 2014, over 60,000 Captains have worked on Careem’s app in Egypt, and have completed over 170 million trips, moving 10 million customers in Egypt. Our ride-hailing service is now available in 17 cities including Cairo, Alexandria, Delta, and Upper Egypt, and its total investment in Egypt has exceeded $170 million since its inception.
"Egypt is one of the four biggest markets for Careem in the region. We have over 600,000 registered male and female Captains. Meanwhile, female employees comprise around 40% of our workforce. Our operations in Egypt include a call center employing nearly 500 locals to serve Egyptian and GCC customers”, added Essam.
Careem Egypt has a diverse portfolio of services that cater to all customers' needs. The most affordable service is "Go Awfar”, which is expected to grow by 80% by increasing the number of its fleet, especially after the growth this service witnessed in 2021 that reached 60% of all trips compared to just 10% in 2020.
Careem Egypt believes that corporate social responsibility is vital to the development of the society. Therefore, it cooperates with several renowned NGOs, including Magdy Yacoub Foundation, Baheya Foundation For Early Detection & Treatment of Breast Cancer, Ahl Misr Hospital, and Misr El Kheir Foundation. Additionally, Careem Egypt has a Rewards Program, which allows customers to donate money to local NGOs, and so far they have donated over EGP 600,000.
