CAIRO - 16 January 2022: Suez Canal International Conference at the Expo 2020 Dubai kicked off on Sunday, Jan. 16.

 

Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Lieutenant-General Osama Rabie, said that the event aims to discuss ways to support global trade in facing various challenges.

 

The Suez Canal Authority is organizing an important event entitled "The Suez Canal and the Challenges of Global Trade" in the Egyptian pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, on Sunday.

 

The first session will be attended by Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea, Lieutenant-General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and Head of the General Authority for the Economic Zone of the Suez CanalYahya Zaki. The session aims to shed light on the tireless efforts made by the various ministries and economic authorities to crystallize the Egyptian vision towards supporting global trade.

 

As for the second session, it is an open dialogue with a group of active personalities in the maritime transport sector at the regional and global levels, including Secretary-General of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), Guy Platten, and Executive VIce President of Fleet and Strategic Brands at Maersk AB Muller, Henriette Hallberg Thygesen

 

Vice President of the Japanese Shipowners' Association (JSA), Keiji Tomoda, and the CEO of the National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) Yasser Zaghloul, will also participate in the media dialogue and international lawyer Khaled Abu Bakr, legal advisor to the Suez Canal Authority.

 

The discussion revolves around four main axes related to the most important challenges facing the maritime transport industry during the current time, in addition to discussing modern environmental trends represented in achieving sustainable development and facing the risks of climate change, as well as presenting different visions of how to keep pace with the technological requirements associated with the development of the industry in light of the new theses of the Internet of Things and others.

 

The Suez Canal event aims to strengthen the bonds of cooperation with success partners, listen to customers’ opinions and their evaluation of the performance and policies of the Suez Canal in supporting global trade, in addition to to explaining the mechanisms of work and development in the Suez Canal and reviewing the future vision during the coming period, and the promising opportunities that development projects in the Suez Canal area provide to support supply chains and the global trade movement in an effective and sustainable manner.
