Egyptian "furniture" exports rise to $236M in 11 months

CAIRO - 3 January 2022: Egypt’s furniture exports increased during the first 11 months of 2021 by about 7 percent to record $236 million, compared to $219 million during the same period in 2020.

The monthly report issued by the Furniture Export Council stated, Monday, that the sector's exports during November decreased by about 36 percent, to record a value of $17.260 million, compared to $26.852 million during November 2020.

The report added that March 2021 recorded the highest rate of increase by about 211 percent, reaching $27.291 million, compared to $8.763 million.

Regarding the most important countries importing Egyptian furniture during the 11 months of 2021, the report indicated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ranked first in terms of importing countries, accounting for 24.5 percent of the total exports, at a value of $58 million, compared to $62 million during the same period in 2020, with a decrease of 6.45 percent.

The United Arab Emirates ranked second, acquiring 13.1 percent of the total exports, at a value of $31 million, compared to $28 million, marking an increase of 10.7 percent, and Iraq came in the third place, which acquired 11percent of the total exports, at a value of $26 million, up from $25 million, with  an increase of 4 percent.

"Egypt's exports of furniture to the Sultanate of Oman during the 11 months of 2021 declined 11.1 percent, amounting to $16 million, compared to $18 million,” it added.

Sudan ranked fifth in terms of importing countries of Egyptian furniture, accounting for 5.9 percent of the total exports, at $14 million, compared to $15 million during the same period in 2020, with a decrease of 6.6 percent, followed by the United States of America, which acquired 5.5 percent of the total exports, with a value of $13 million, compared to $8 million, with an increase of 62.8 percent.

The report indicated that Jordan accounted for 4.6 percent of the total Egyptian furniture exports, with a value of $11 million, and Libya ranked eighth in terms of importing countries, accounting for 2.9 percent, at a value of $7 million, compared to $6 million, with an increase of 16.6 percent, followed by Italy, at $4 million, compared to $5 million during the same period in 2020, with a decrease of 25 percent.

While the exports to the rest of the world hiked 30.2 percent, recording $56 million, compared to $43 million during the same period in 2020.
