CAIRO - 21 December 2021: The Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) asserted that the state's strategy to support the supply and internal trade sector was based on establishing stockpiles of various commodities to ensure their availability at markets in all times along with the expansion in the logistic and trade centers and retail shops.

This came in a report released by IDSC on Tuesday which focuses on tackling the outcome of the state's efforts to promote the sector of supply and internal trade.

The report also followed up the steps for applying the subsidized bread distribution system in all governorates across the country and the role of the monitoring bodies to ban the policy of monopoly and expand the local production in order to reduce the gap between imports and exports.

The report also reviewed the wheat imports which hit 5.5 million tons, while the local production stood at 3.5 million tons, noting that the state has achieved self-sufficiency of rice.

As per internal trade, the report highlighted an increase in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the wholesale and retail trade by 11.2 percent recording a total of LE 901 billion in 2020/2021 compared with LE 810 billion in the previous year.

New investments in the trade zones, logistics and trade chains reached LE 37.5 billion, according to the report, which stated the establishment of around 11 projects of such kind in the various governorates.
