Things to know about Egypt's Silo Food city

CAIRO – 3 August 2021: Egypt announced, Tuesday, the opening of the first phase of the Food and Logistics Industrial City under the name “Silo Foods” in Sadat City in Menoufia governorates.

Egypt Today highlights the importance of the new city and its production capacity in terms of food supplies.

The city is built on 135 eddans with a total of 567,000 square meters; it contains 10 different factories and 470 tons of various products annually, about 40 products.

It contains 10 laboratories for various analyzes, research and development, the transportation sector and the health movement of products, administrative buildings, a hotel accommodation, staff services and a medical point.

The second phase will be opened with a capacity of 4 factories, coinciding with the Egyptian state's celebration of the upcoming Sinai Liberation Day.

The city contributes to the development of the current school feeding system by establishing an integrated system to provide an ideal nutritional meal for school students with a high nutritional value.

The first phase of the National Company includes 6 food factories served by a wheat mill and group of silos, in addition to 3 factories for printing and packaging, and a transport and movement sector.

The first phase of the project includes 14 wheat silos with a storage capacity of 280,000 tons annually, and a wheat mill with a total of 2 lines with a capacity of 234 thousand tons annually.

It also includes establishing a biscuit factory with a total of 5 lines for producing all kinds of biscuits with a capacity of 68 thousand tons annually, including two lines for producing wafer biscuits with a capacity of 25 thousand tons annually, and two lines for dates wafer biscuits with a capacity of 34 thousand tons annually, and a line of plain biscuits with a capacity of 9 thousand tons annually.

There is a pasta factory with a total of 5 lines for the production of pasta and noodles with a capacity of 151 thousand tons annually, including 4 lines for the production of short and long pasta, with a capacity of 147 thousand tons annually, in addition to a noodle production line with a capacity of 4 thousand tons annually.

Moreover, a bakery factory with a total of 5 lines with a capacity of 9 thousand tons annually, and a factory to produce all kinds of flexible packages for packing biscuits, pasta and baked goods, with a total production capacity of 8 thousand tons annually, and a duplex factory to produce all kinds of boxes with a total production capacity of 6 thousand tons annually.

The transport sector in the first phase of the company included 52 trucks to transport products with a capacity of 2000 tons per trip, in addition to 70 equipment for loading and unloading.

The stage included a hotel for the residence of foreign experts with a capacity of 45 rooms, and accommodation and administrative services buildings with a capacity of 800 employees.

Silo Foods uses the latest integrated electronic management and control systems to monitor the production stages and to fully control the movement of sales of products, and to follow the technical and administrative quality systems.

The second phase of the company includes 4 factories for dairy products, cheese, halvah and corrugated cardboard.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi witnessed this morning the inauguration of the Silo Foods Industrial City.
