CAIRO – 17 June 2021: Egypt will manufacture the electric cars (E70) next year, with expected production capacity to reach 50,000 cars per year, stated Minister of Public Enterprise Sector Hisham Tawfiq.
In TV statements, Minister Tawfiq said that Egypt has put 12 electric cars into trial for 30,000 km.
“The first 100 electric cars will be produced in August 2022, where cars will be of single motor and three different batteries,” he added.
He further signaled that the cars to be produced will be private, taxis and for trade purposes.
“The country will build 3,000 charging stations for electric cars, where 6,000 cars ca be charged at the same time,” Minister Tawfiq said. “Half of the number of the stations will be near homes or work places.”
Citizens can start registering to buy the new Nasr electric car (E70) starting from December, after the electric cars will be tested during the coming period.
Tawfiq said the electric cars, which will be manufactured by El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company, will be tested in Egypt’s streets in the beginning of July.
As many as 13 cars were imported, of which nine cars will be tested in Egypt by drivers from Uber company, he added.
Minister of Public Enterprise Sector Hisham Tawfiq on Wednesday attended a conference to launch E70 electric cars, which will be manufactured in Egypt as of mid 2022.
The ceremony was also attended by Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker and Industry Minister Nevine Gamea.
The manufacturing of these electric cars will start in Egypt under a memorandum of understanding recently inked between El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company and the Chinese Dongfeng Motor Corporation.
The project gives a strong start to manufacturing electric cars in Egypt and in the North Africa region, Tawfiq said, adding that it will revive the work of El Nasr Company after a hiatus that lasted for a decade.
Manufacturing this car would lead to cutting consumption of fossil fuel and coping with development in the international automobile industry, Tawfiq added.
Tawfiq noted that the production of electric vehicles is meant to go in line with directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to localize eco-friendly industries which also involve modern technology.
