BARCELONA, 7 July 2017: Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr held a meeting with managing director of the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) Josep Ferré on the sidelines of her participation in the Crans Montana Forum.
The meeting came during a banquet held in Barcelona, during which Ferré welcomed the Egyptian minister, saying her visit is the first official visit to the IEMed by a senior Egyptian official since January 2011.
The IEMed seeks to increase cooperation among the Mediterranean countries in carrying out projects and exchanging expertise, he said, noting that it also helps European countries that are keen to invest in Egypt.
On that score, Ferré said the IEMed intends to organize and host a conference in the last quarter of 2017 on investment in Egypt.
The conference will be attended by representatives of 28 Mediterranean countries in addition to senior European economic figures, he added.
Meanwhile, Nasr said Cairo seeks to remove all obstacles facing the Mediterranean countries, affirming that the Egyptian government is aware of the importance of introducing additional reforms in order to maintain social protection for the low-income citizens.
The minister also indicated that the government seeks to improve the business climate and support investors. In order to achieve this objective, it has taken measures to ease investment procedures and remove bureaucracy, she added.
