Production index for transformative, extractive industries hikes 12.25% in March

CAIRO – 21 February 2020: Egypt’s industrial production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, hiked 12.25 percent, recording LE 116.84 (primary) during March 2021, compared to LE 104.09 (final) during February 2021, the state's statistics body said.

 

CAPMAS indicated that the economic activities witnessed an increase, as the beverage industry index reached 235.80 during March 2021 compared to February 2021, where it reached 199.75, marking an increase of 18.04 percent, due to the increase in the demand for beverages for the advent of the summer season.

 

The index for the chemical materials and products industry reached 116.85 during March 2021, compared to February 2021, where it reached 97.35, with an increase of 20.03 percent, in order to meet the needs of the market due to the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.

 

As for the economic activities that witnessed a decline, the index for the manufacture of computers, electronic products, optical and medical devices decreased 20.77 percent,  reaching 105.90 during March 2021, compared to February 2021, when it reached 133.66, due to the market condition and the availability of stocks.

 

The index of the non-classified machinery and equipment industry recorded 192.68 during March 2021 compared to February 2021, when it reached 207.86, with a decrease of 7.31 percent, due to the market situation.
