Egypt closely follows up Iran deal developments - Foreign Ministry

CAIRO – 9 May 2018: Egypt is closely following up a decision taken Tuesday by US President Donald Trump to exit the Iran deal, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Egypt understands the US and international keenness to address all regional and international concerns related to the nuclear deal with Iran and Iran's interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countries, the ministry added.

“The ministry called on Iran to fulfill its obligations in accordance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the comprehensive safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Ensuring the continuation of its status as a non-nuclear weapon state and enhancing the chances of establishing a Middle East free of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, which will promote stability and peace in the region”, read the Statement.

Egypt renewed its firm stance on the need to preserve the security and stability of the region and the safety of its peoples.

The statement voiced Egypt's deep concern about any policies aimed at expanding the influence in the Arab world and the negative impact on the national security of Arab countries.

Egypt stressed the importance of the participation of all the concerned Arab parties in any dialogue on the future of the region, in particular the possibility of amending the nuclear deal with Iran.

Egypt called on all regional powers, including Iran, to stop adopting policies or actions aimed at harming the security of the Arab region.

Egypt hopes that current developments will not result in any regional armed conflicts that would threaten its stability and security, the statement concluded.
