‘Decent Life’ covers 4.5K villages, seeks to improve lives of 50M Egyptians: Minister

CAIRO – 11 February 2021: Minister of Planning Hala el-Saeed revealed some important figures regarding the presidential initiative “Decent Life” during a Thursday session at the parliament.

Decent Life is an initiative launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in 2019 to improve the standard of living and quality of life for the most vulnerable groups in Egypt.

According to El-Saeed, the initiative includes 4,500 villages and targets to improve the lives of 50 million Egyptians.

By the end of this year, El-Saeed said that the initiative will have covered 357 villages, and that it aims to cover the rest of the villages within three years.

The total investments injected in the initiative amount to more than L.E. 500 billion, where the investments of the first year surpasses L.E. 150 billion.  

According to previous statements by El-Saeed, the Egyptian state works to reduce development gaps between governorates by focusing on developing the villages most in need. She noted that real development occurs at the governorate level and not in a centralized manner and that each governorate has a different competitive advantage, and has different resources. She stressed that spatial justice is one of the goals of the state plan.
