CAIRO – 4 October 2020: Minister of Housing, Asim Al-Gazzar announced the allocation of LE 207.5 million to water and sanitation services in the governorates of Assiut and New Valley to the most-needy villages as part of the second phase of the "Decent Life" initiative.
Al-Gazzar explained, in a statement, Sunday, that the initiative of a decent life aims to provide a decent life for the most-needy community groups, and to raise the economic, social and environmental level, and enable them to obtain all basic services.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company in Assiut and the New Valley, Mohamed Salah El-Din Abdel Ghaffar, stated that LE 151.5 million have been allocated for extending and strengthening drinking water networks in the areas of Abnoub, Badari, Salim Coast, Sadfa, Qusiya, Manfalut, and Assiut Center.
He stated that it includes the replacement and renewal of 36 wells using the mechanical drilling rig in all artesian water stations across the governorate, the replacement and partial renewal of the candidate stations by supplying and installing different types of centrifugal pumps and their accessories, as well as the supply of 15 generators and 200 submersible depth pumps complete with inclusions.
He pointed out that LE 56 million has been allocated to extend and support drinking water networks in Dakhla and Farafra, dig (6) drinking wells in the centers of the New Valley Governorate (Kharga - Dakhla - Farafra), and supply (6) generators, and (10) submersible pumps complete with inclusions and 113 pipes of 6 inches in diameter and supply of 1500 meters of cables for pumps.
Abdel Ghaffar confirmed that the initiative, in its first phase, aimed to provide clean drinking water services and deliver sanitation services to (60) targeted villages in Assiut Governorate, at a total cost of LE 209 million.
He pointed out that it includes extending and strengthening the water networks in 53 of the targeted villages with a length of (35100) meters, and the implementation of (35) wells in Assiut Governorate, in addition to extending and strengthening the water networks in 7 of the targeted villages with a length of 64,000 meters, and the implementation of (6) wells in the New Valley Governorate. .
He mentioned that it includes the delivery of sanitation services to 8 villages of the target in Assiut Governorate and 5 villages in New Valley Governorate, so that 900,000 citizens can reap the fruits of this initiative.
