CAIRO – 28 June 2022: Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi said "Decent Life" presidential initiative is the largest development project in Egypt's history, adding 58 million Egyptians will benefit from it.
This came during a seminar held under the theme "Localizing sustainable development goals at the local level in lagging regions within the Egyptian context - the Decent Life initiative and the local development program in Upper Egypt as a model."
The project aims at bringing about an unprecedented qualitative leap in the quality of life in the Egyptian countryside, by injecting investments estimated at about EGP 1 trillion to develop more than 4,500 villages, the minister said.
Shaarawi said that the political leadership and the government pay great attention to the World Urban Forum, noting that the 12th edition of the WUF will be held in Egypt in 2024.
The minister also posted the participants on the general framework of the development experiment in Egypt from 2014 until now.
He further pointed out that the forum coincided with the Egyptians' celebration of the 9th anniversary of the June 30 Revolution that came to correct the path, after which the Egyptian State gave priority to comprehensive and sustainable development and began to adopt a structural economic reform program that gained the confidence of international institutions.
