CAIRO – 14 December 2021: The nation-wide developmental initiative “Haya Karima” has provided more than 550,000 temporary and permanent job opportunities as part of its work to develop the livelihoods of the countryside.
The initiative targeted the development of approximately 4,500 villages and 30,888 villages and farms, in about 26 governorates, with a population of approximately 57% of the population of Egypt.
The initiative implemented many projects in various sectors in 375 rural communities in the governorates, including 1,300 projects, with investments exceeding 700 billion pounds.
By the end of the current year, the development of services for about 375 villages will be completed, bringing the coverage rate to 17 percent of the population. Besides, the governorates of Egypt are witnessing daily work in full swing in the initiative projects, including projects for lining canals in different cities.
The canal lining project was launched by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, last April, in all governorates of Egypt, which contributes to rationalizing and reducing water losses that are wasted in the water network, in order to achieve a saving in irrigation water of about 5 billion cubic meters annually.
Over the course of more than a year and a half, the presidential initiative has made huge achievements that have advanced the Egyptian countryside, and given its residents foundations for a decent life among the neediest groups in villages where the poverty rate reaches 70 percent, in various fields, such as health, education and housing.
The initiative allocated 103 billion pounds in support of the poor, and the development of villages in need, to provide facilities, health and educational services, sports and cultural activities, and more than 600 projects in 377 rural communities in 11 Egyptian governorates have been implemented so far.
