Haya Karima raises citizens awareness to maintain development across Egyptian villages

CAIRO – 4 October 2021: Over the past months, the presidential developmental initiative “Haya Karima” or [Decent Life] has made fundamental change at poor villages across Egypt, raising quality of life and providing essential services in a sustainable manner.

A necessary pillar of the initiative is building humans, depending on raising awareness of citizens who are witnessing development achieved in vital services, to maintain the huge investments pumped into the development efforts.  

Importance of rationalizing consumption, plumbing and other various mechanisms are part of the awareness campaigns that tour the governorates.

Engineer Mansour Badawy, head of the Giza Water and Sanitation Company, said that the company’s awareness department has implemented a number of awareness campaigns on the importance of the national projects being implemented within the initiative.

Badawi pointed out that the campaigns dealt with many awareness activities, including door-knock campaigns to reach housewives, distributing publications to raise awareness of the importance of water conservation, conducting direct meetings with citizens, holding drawing workshops for children and conducting interactive activities, which contributes to the ease of reaching the initiative’s message about the importance of preserving each water drop and the optimal use of sewage networks.

It also dealt with introducing citizens to the services provided by the company, such as water-saving pieces and their importance in rationalizing water consumption, using mobile application to record electricity meter readings and send complaints.

It is worth mentioning that the presidential initiative aims to develop 42 villages in Al-Saff and Atfih districts.

At the same time, the Water Holding Company organized a workshop under the title "Drafting the content of awareness messages for projects of the presidential initiative, Haya Karima", with the participation of drinking water and sanitation companies in Aswan, Beni Suef, Minya, Menoufia, and Alexandria Water, aiming to unify awareness messages and concepts during field campaigns.

The head of the Aswan Water Company said that Haya Karima initiative is a qualitative leap to improve drinking water and sanitation services in the various governorates of the Republic, especially the governorates of Upper Egypt, to which the Egyptian state pays unprecedented attention.

In the same context, Major General Abdel Hamid Esmat, the head of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company in the Canal Governorates, stressed the importance of developing the work methodology, following up and evaluating work plans in the areas of customer service, hotline, awareness, and community participation.
