Mochine Jazouli, Minister of investment, Convergence and evaluation of public policies
CAIRO - 30 October 2022: Morocco’s Minister of investment, Convergence and evaluation of public policies, Mohcine Jazouli, delivered a speech at the Automobilwoche congress.
Jazouli shared his insights on the developments of the renewable energy sector and the booming Moroccan automotive sector which makes Morocco a leading player in low carbon manufacturing.
“Morocco was part of the Automobilwoche Congress, one of the automotive industry's most prestigious events: a platform for sharing experiences while establishing network contact relationships,” Jazouli stated.
During his speech, the minister delegate stated that Morocco has been able to position itself as one of the most competitive and sustainable destinations for investment thanks to the political leadership.
“Morocco, at the center of a global investment map disrupted by many major international challenges and crises, is betting on new sectors, among which electric mobility,” he pointed out.
Jazouli reviewed that the Moroccan gross domestic product (GDP) has been multiplied by 3 between 2000 and 2020, adding that it is the first country in Africa in terms of the quality of its infrastructure. For example, the port of Tangier Med, in the Northern side of Morocco, is the leading port in Africa and was ranked 3rd most efficient in the European region according to the World Bank.
He added that Morocco now hosts the first high-speed train of the African continent.
“Moreover, thanks to more than 1800 kilometers of highways and some twenty international airports, Morocco offers a first-choice industrial platform for economic operators at the gateway to Europe,” he stated.
In terms of sustainability, Morocco is among the world leaders in renewable energy with one of the largest solar power plants in the world, 52 large-scale renewable projects implemented to date and another 59 in development, according to Jazouli.
As per the automotive sector in Morocco, he said that in less than 20 years we have succeeded in building a rich and diversified automotive ecosystem, starting from scratch.
“Today, Morocco has become the leading vehicle producer in Africa with an installed capacity of more than 700,000 vehicles per year, he announced, elaborating that many major groups have installed production capacities in Morocco such as Renault, Stellantis, Leoni, Denso, Valeo, Magna, Lear or Faurecia, and over 250 suppliers operate from Morocco.
