Human rights lawyer Sayed Fathy died on May 14 of a heart attack at age 45. Dubbed ‘the lawyer of the poor’, at the time of his death Fathy was representing activists, families of torture victims and residents of Qorsaya Island in cases against government officials. Fathy helped found and was director of the Al-Hilaly Freedoms Organization, and also helped found the National Association for Change and the Social Political Alliance Party.
